A cablegram from Ottawa reports the death of Sir Samuel Hughes. Canadian Minister of Defence, after a long illness. Mr. Jas. McLeod, president of the New Zealand Rugby Union, leaves to-night for Auckland to attend the second test match.
Mr. J. Brown was yesterday re-elected chairman of directors of the Maketawa Dairy Company.
The death of Mr. W. E. Percis al was referred to yesterday at the annual meeting of the Maketawa Dairy Company, of which he was secretary. Mr. J. Brown (chairman of directors) referred to the loss th \y had sustained by the death of Mr. Percival, who had been secretary of the company for the past twenty years. Mr. Brown said the late Mr. Percival was “one of the whitest men he had ever come across.” His word was his bond, and he was always willing to take his fair share. He was always very thorough and it. was never any trouble to work with him, as he never shirked hk share of the work. On the chairman’s motion a vote of sympathy with the late Mr. Percival’s relatives was passed;
