ELTHAM COURT.
YESTERDAY'S SITTING. (From Our Own Correspondent.) A sitting of the Magistrate’s Court was held at Elfcham yesterday before Mr. A. l\l. MowJem, B.M. OBSCENE I.ANGUAGE. Mrs. Minnie Boniface, charged with using obscene language in u public place on August. ]S. wae sentenced to six months’ imprisonment, sentence Lo be commuted if accused consented to stay for twelve months in the Salvation Army Home in Wellington. E\ ADING TOLL PAYMENT. Laurence Ralph Castle was charged with endeavoring to evade paying toll at the Riverlea toll gate on the night of June 17. Accused pleaded guilty. The evidence showed that he had been passing the itoll-gate on the way to a dance on a motor-cycle and hi endeavoring to pass through the gate had knoei - ed the keeper down, but had not injured him. "I want you to understand that because I look on this case leniently that I will not treat future cases in a len - ent manner,” said the Magistrate in imposing a fine of £2 and costs. COSTLY JOY RIDE.
John McClymont, Walter Sait and Cecil Frederick Yates were charged with illegally using a motor car. the property of Leonard Ricketts. All three pleaded guilty. The evidence -was that on thn night of August 5 McClymont and Yates had gone to Staniter’s garage and taken the car. They had picked up Sait and driven to a dance. On their return the garage was found to be closed and the car was left outside. McClymont and Yates were each fined £5 and costs and Sait was lined £3 and costs. A fortnight was allowed to find the money. A NEW BY-LAW. Francis James Henry was charged that on August 13 “he did drive round a bend in a road on the wrong side of the road.” Accused pleaded guilty. Constable Townsend said that the ease was the first one to bo laid under the new Eltham Borough Council bylaw. by which it is made an offence for people to drive round corners and not keep on the correct side of the road all the way round. Accused was convicted and fined 5/and costs. LEMONADE MANUFACTURER FINED. Gerald Victor Peddie (Mr. A. A. Stewart) was charged on two counts with selling lemonade containing saccharine instead of sugar. Mr. Stewart stated that Peddie, who was a manufacturer of lemonade, had bought a big supply of saccharine last August. Had he known then that it was illegal to make lemonade with saccharine he would not have bought a year’s supply. The. case was similar to a number of other cases which had been heard lately. Accused was fined £5 and costs.
