The golf final between Kirkwood and Mitchell at Gleneagles was played in fine weather and a high wind before a crowd of ten thousand. Mitchell played wonderful golf throughout and was four up after the first round. The scores are: Mitchell 70, Kirkwood 74. Mitchell won 7 up and 6. Mitchell opened brilliantly and won the first in three, Kirkwood pulling into the rough and finding a bunker near the green. The next four holes were halved in four, five, five, three. Kirkwood brilliantly won the sixth (455 yards) in three, but drove badly at the seventh, where he had to have a direction post moved in order to play Irfft second. Mitchell stymied him.
