Kirkwood made a great triumph In reaching the final, in which he will oppose the long hitting Abo Mitchell, who defeated Ockenden 6 up and 5. Playing in the semi-final with Renouf, Kirkwood gained a lead of three holes in the first round, but though he putted brilliantly, holing from two yards for a two at the fifth, a fifteen yarder at the tenth, and a twenty j’arder at the eighteenth, he took three putts on three greens and lost each, so he was brought back tu one up. Perhaps this was because he played a little too easily, but nevertheless he played with supreme confidence and won three and two, interest being sustained to the last stroke, when Kirkwood was accoiiled an ovation. His opponent played well throughout. Kirkwood opened the afternoon round by losing the first two holes. He regained one on the next, and halved the fourth. Then he last the fifth, taking three putts. Halves followed. Renouf won the ninth with a brilliant three, and the match was square. Renouf made his only serious mistake at the tenth, where he picked up. Kirkwood reached tte green in f.vo. At the eleventh Kirkwood holed a difficult putt for a half In three. He took three putts at the next, and only halved. He won th© thirteenth with a good four. Renouf, holing from fourteen yards for two, reduced Kirkwood's lead by one, with four to play. Kirkwood won the next, but an impossible stigmle at the sixteenth prevented him from holing. The seventeenth Kirkwood played perfectly. Though he was not so brilliant as in the second round, he hftd the match fairly safe throughout.
