SITUATION IN SILESIA.

POSITION BECOMING EASIER. DESTRUCTION BY THE FIGHTING. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copy right. Received June 9, 5.5 p.m. London, June 8. Germany has assured Britain that she will order General Hoper, commanding the. self-defer.ca Loops in Upper Silesia to obey the Allied Commission and withdraw from the territory taken from the Polish insurgents. It is expected this will relieve the strained situation. An Anglo-French exchange of Notes resulted in the indefinite postponement of the Boulogne Conference on Upper Silesian problems. Britain endorses the French theory that the first necessity is to restore order, and it will await the report of experts before taking the next step. A curious development has occurred in Paris, the German Ambassador protesting against the withdrawal of Allied troops from German villages in Upper Silesia, whereas he previously complained of harsh treatment. The Times correspondent at Oppelin states the Poles have evacuated the town in accordance with the British demand, and British troops have occupied it. The insurgents suffered heavy losses in five counter-attacks at Kandrzein, and the Germans took 1700 prisoners. Terrible scenes -were enacted in the town. Ten Polish prisoners were massacred by infuriated Bavarians, following on the discoverey o-f three Bavarian students crucified in a neighbouring forest. The retiring Poles destroyed •bridges and looted and burned villages. Fighting is proceeding in Birawa.—Times Service.
