SPORT IN ENGLAND.
EXTRAORDINARY POPULARITY OF OUTDOOR GAMES. By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. Received June 9, *5.5 p.m. London, June 8. Sport is booming in England, partly as a result of the military training and the games which were organised behind the lines. It is estimated that 50,000 are playing cricket in Greater London and 60,000 lawn tennis. The latter game is experiencing the greatest boom in its history, with the result that there is a temporary shortage of balls and racquets and increased prices. There are not sufficient courts available, and every club has a long waiting list. The authorities predict a greater football boom during the coming season. Three thousand clubs are playing in Greater London. There would be 5000 clubs if more grounds were available.
