GAOL WITHOUT THE OPTION. MAGISTRATE’S JURISDICTION. By Telegraph —Press Association. Duned'n, Last Night. Mr. Justice Adams heard in this morning an unusual application fox! a writ of habeas corpeas for the release of Eric Hansson, who was sen-enoed at Middlemarch by Mr. Lewy. S.M., to two terms if imprisonment for procuring liquor while prohibited. The uicensirg Act fiSred the maximum penalty a£ £loj in default three’months, but the magistrate had given no option. Counsel urged that the magistrate had no jurisdiction to issue the warrant under which the man was held. Mr. Justice Adams made a rule nisi calling upon the gaoler to show cauw why the accused should not be dia* charged, the rule to be returned by Sat* urday.
