EGMONT LICENSING COMMITTEE.

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Egmont Licensing Committee was held at the Eltham Courthouse on Wednesday, when i the members present were Messrs. J. Orr Walkr, S.M., presiding, W. C. Clement, T. P. Hughson, N. C. Innes, M. O’Brien, and A. IT. Guy, TRANSFERS GRANTED. The following transfers were granted:—Club Hotel, Opunake, from David Kevyar to Patrick J. Purcell; and Central Hotel. Eltnam, from George W. Tayler to Joseph B. Dunn. RENEWALS GRANTED. The following renewals were granted: —Normanby Hotel, to Patrick John Keogh; Okaiawa Hotel, to Michael .Fahey; Opunake Hotel, to Nellie Nightingale; Coronation- Hotel, Eltham, to Ernest Crabtree; Dominion Hotel, Kaponga, to Albert. Owen Casey; Commercial Hotel, Normanby, to William S. Poole; Otakeho Hotel, to Edward Andrews: Manain. Hotel, to Charles J. Kirk: Commercial Hotel, to'Edward J. Massey; Central Hotel, Eltham, to J. B. Dunn; Club Hotel, Opunake, to P. J. Purcell; Oeo Hotel, to Wm. P. Walsh; wholesale lieflhse to A. E. Smalley, Eltham. ELTHAM. HOTEL. When the application for the renewal of the license of the Eltham Hotel to Annie Clark was made the magistrate said reports had been received of persons being on the promises after hours, and two convictions, had been recorded that morning. He hoped the hotel would bp conducted in the same excellent manner asjhe other hotels in Eltham. Mr. A. A. Stewart, who appeared on behalf of Mrs. Clark, said he Relieved that lady was conducting the hotel satisfactorily, bur. ho would convey to her the chairman’s remarks. The license was granted. RAHOTU HOTEL. Tn connection with the application of Eric Roy Jury for a renewal of the license of the Rahotu Hotel, the committee pointed out that the new part of the house was still leaking. The Public Trustee said Xie matter had been attended to. but not successfully. The trouble did not appear to be in the roof, hut in the walls. It was the new portion of the. house which was leaking. He would undertake to have the matter put right. . The license was then granted. W AIM ATE HOTEL. In regard to the Waimate Hotel. Manaia, the chairman said the committee were opposed to a renewal of the license to the present licensee. Air. Wm. AL Vivian. Counsel (Air. Ryan) said a sale of the premises was almost completed, and the new licensee was a satisfactory man. Sergeant Henry said the police objected to the renewal as fho attitude of the owner had been by no means satisfactory. There was a case pending against Vivian at the present time. Air. Ryan said as a matter of procedure the license would have io bo renewed to Vivian, as his was the only application before the committee. The chairman - said it was quite impossible to grant, a renewal of the license to Vivian, and the application would be adjourned to July 6. —Argus.
