SATURDAY HALF-HOLIDAY.
POPULAR IN DOMINION. An interesting return prepared for the Minister for Labor (the Hon. G. J. Anderson) shows that during the present year no fewer than 31 local authorities have adopted Saturday as the weekly half-holiday for their districts. These 31 districts include the boroughs of Lower Hutt, Masterton, Carterton, Palmerston North, Blenheim, Te Awamutu, Motueka, Whangarei, Cambridge, Stratford, and Te Aroha. In 1920, fifteen districts adopted the Saturday halfholiday; in 1919, nine; in 1918, four; in 1917, six; in 1916, one; in 1915, four; and fifteen had adopted it prior to 1913. Of the four chief cities, Auckland and Christchurch had adopted the Saturday half-holiday before 1915; and Welington and Dunedin carried it in 1915. The total number which has adopted Saturday as the weekly halfholiday is now 85. Fifteen have adopt, ed it and gone back to the Wednesday, or another half-holiday.
