AUSTRALIA v. MANAWATU, EASY WIN FOR THE VISITORS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Palmerston North, Last Night. The Australians beat Manawatu by an innings and 73 runs. The Australians, in their first innings, made 314 runs (Liddicutt not out 143, Asher 60) Manawatu’s second • innings produced only 69 (Pagden 39 not out). He was the only batsman to reach double figures. POSITION OF THE TEAMS. The South Taranaki shield competition is now almost concluded, and the position ctf the various teams is of laiterast. The points awarded are 3 for two-innings victory, 2 for a single-innings victory, and one for a draw, and the positions up to last Saturday were as follows: Manaia 15 points Eltham 14 points Okaiawa n points Excelsior n points Midlands 7 points Rivals 5 points Kaponga 3 points In addition to each team having to play three more games to conclude the fixture list there are three unfinished games to complete, including one between Manaia and Excelsior, one between Eltham apd the Rivals, and another between Okaiawa and Midlands. This leaves the position verj’ open, Manaia, Eltham, Okaiawa and Midlands all being in the running for the championship. URENUI v. WAI-TOI-TOI. Keen interest was evinced in the return cncket match between teams representing Urenui juniors and Wai-toi-toi, played at Urenul last week, and resulting in a win for the visitors, by eight runs. The home team flist went to the wickets, and compiled 90 runs, of which A Cole (13), Fitzgerald (20). D. Rumbal (I!), and R. Wiley (17) wer? the double figure scorers. Wai-toi-toi responded with 98, owing chiefly to K. Bluidell (45), F. Rowe (15), and A. Spun- (13). For the winners, P. Spun- secured five wickets, A. Spurt and N. Stre.-t two each, and Riki Hana and K. Blunded one each For the juniors, A. Cole took six wickets,, E. Rumbal three, and A. Halcombe one. The fielding stowed a noticeable improvement, and no dcubt, with more practice, much better results will be shown.
