PICTON REGATTA. By Tolograph.—Press Association. Blenheim, Last Night. A cl’ampionship regatta was held at Pieton tr-day. Unfortunately a wind that sprang up from the north-east shortly after the first race was rowed raised a nasty jobble, and prevented any championship events being rowed until the evening. Several times the starter had the crews in line, but on each occasion it was found impossible to get the boats away. In the champion sculls, for instance, all four boats became filled with water, while before the champion fours was postponed for the second time two crews had (0 row to shore to empty their skiffs. Maiden Fours.—Wellington 1, Pieton 5, Poverty Bay 3. Also started: Blenheim and Wairau. Won by two lengths, one length between second and third. Time, smin. 49 2-ssec. Junior Pairs.—Wairau (Poverty Bay) 1, West E'nd No. 1 2. Also started: Picton, Star (Wanganui). An exciting finish, the placed boats being very close. Time, 6m!,n. 55 4-ssec. The north-east breeze increased before the champion fours took place. After sheltering a. while under the lee of Mabel Island, the crews returned fc the sheds, and the race was postponed. Junior Fours.—West End (Wairau) 1, Wanganui Union 2. Won by half a length. Time, 9min. Gsec.
