CAPE EOMONT TO MANUKAU, ' QUESTION IN PARLIAMENT. ;' (By Wire.—Parliamentary Beporter.) Wellington, Last Night. Mr. S. G. Smith (Taranaki) asked tlie Minister of Marine whether, in..view of the fact that the survey ship Veronica is said to he now in Australian waters, he will consider the advisability of arranging for a re-surveyof , the coast between Cape Egmont and .Manukan harbor, and whether, if aueh survey can be undertaken, he will arrange that the 30-, the 60-, and the 100-fathom lines be shown on the chart. The original survey was made in. 1849 and 1851, and the sounding* partook ' more of the nature of a running mf». vey. Hence the reason more up-to-, date detail work. ' Sir William Herries replieit: Negotiations are at present proceeding betwteuy l the Admiralty and the Marine Department with respect to the completion of the survey of the New Zealand ooMt, and it is hoped that ihey will be aqpn completed. As Tegards the Verooiea,, this vessel, so far as the Government' is aware, is not a survey ship, and to, any case she may not be suitable for the work. Moreover, as any enrrey.i work to he recognised by the Admiralty must be carried out by offlt cers selected by it, it is considered fed* visable to await the result of the pren* '■' ent negotiations.
