STRATFORD RACING CLUB. The members of this Club, recognising that additional improvements both to the buildings and race-track were necessary owing to the greatly-increased attendance and popularity of recent race-meetings, instructed the Committee to devise some means of re-arranging their finances so that a comprehensive scheme of Improvements could be undertaken (says the Post). A small sub-committee was set up, which arranged that the bank should advance tho club £15,000, supported by a guarantee of twenty-four of its members. This has now been done, and as the club possesses a freehold property of over ono hundred acres, which is unencumbered, the whole of this amount is availablo for expenditure. A scheme has been adopted, the carrying out of which will extend over a period of four or five years, but, we understand, a start will be made immediately' after the next race-meeting, and, on completion, Stratford will have a race track and appointments it would be difficult to beat. The club lias fought strenuously for a second permit for an extra two days' race meeting, and its just claims have been recognised both by the District Committee and the Minister of Internal Affairs, who, under existing laws, baa not the power to grant one, but should Mr. Hunter's Bill be passed or a redistribution scheme be adopted, we feel sure Stratford has the prior claim of any club in New Zealand. By a new rule just adopted, the guarantors have a rieht to appoint six of their number to Ihe Committee, and at a meeting the following were elected to represent them, viz.: Messrs. A .W. Budge, J. Fredric, D. S, Glasgow, D. J. Malono, J, \V. McMillan, and V. Smith. The annual meeting of members elected Mr. S. Pitt as Presld'Mit, Mr. M. McDonald as Vice-Pre-sident, ami Mr A. Stewart as their 'member, so we think the Club may well be congratulated upon the selection of such a strong committee to conduct their affairs and embark upon the, new scheme.
