NO ROOM TO LIVE.

HOUSING PROBLEM IN HAMILTON. The housing problem in Hamilton is said to have readied a highlv acute stage. Cases are cited of families living in motor garages and sheds. In one instance a woman with a family, who is waiting to occupy a house she has purchased at a sum in excess of £IOOO, are "baching" in a shed which has not even a window through which the sun might enter and make pleasant the temporary "digs." Several families occupying one house are to he found in not a few instances. One case was quoted as being in Queeu Street, This, a five-roomed dwelling, is said to he housing no fewer than 10 people. Two young men who were obliged to visit Hamilton during the last few davs had to sit up all night in the smokerbom of one of the leading hotels. The conditions were brought under the notice of the Minister for Internal Affairs by a. resident, who has received a reply which states, inter alia: "It is unfortunately true that the housing difficulty is great at Hamilton, but ltis so in many other parts of the Dominion, and tlie remedy by construction of new dwellings cannot be applied at once to the extent required. Legislation at the last session on the subject is being given effect to."
