(By "Moturoa.") .Danqeylrke races to-day. Qpunajce, on Wednesday next. Goldstrthe Is due for a win shortly. Jtmmle* Richmond .returned acceptable dividends at Blenheim. Rose Wrealh '-Bindle 1.9 (he favorite double for the Rangitlkel meeting. Tigrlnia ran two good races at Greenmeadows, and should be handy at Dannevlrke.

The Young Bros.' appeals against cancellation of thalr licenses will be heard at Wellington to-day. A trio of winning rides at Napier Park brought H. Gray's total for the season up to 17. Roy Reed 40, and Ashley Reed 37 are now leading. COn. Beld Is not likely to forget his ride on St. Omer at Napier last Saturday. After going a short distance Reld was thrown over the rails, with one foot caught In the stirrup. Fortunately, he was'able to wriggle clear from his desperate position.

Mr. G, D Greenwood won a race at Akaroa with Kolyma, a three-year-old filly by Suula from Kolentla. She got out smartly from an Indifferent send-off and v<on comfortably. Another notable winner at Akaroa was the English-bred mare Henrlette, by Henry I Minnie Orme. This aristocratic lady beat a big field in the Welter Handicap, and returned a handsome dividend. Warlike has proved a veritable gold mine to Messrs Clarkson and Person, who purchased him cheaply from Mr. T. H. Lowry, and In winning the Peninsula (Akaroa) Cup with 9.0 in 2.9, he proved himself a very useful customer.

Ignorance of the rules of racing cost a Jockey a winning ride recently. His mount was carried out to the wing at the last obstacle, and after crushing through was pulled up. The rider was unaware that the wing constituted part of the obstacle, and his Ignorance cost the horses's backers a tidy sum of money.

One of the chief disappointments of the Newmarket runners was the imported horse Chrysolaus. Taranakl trainers will welcome the projected addition to their ranks of Rid Reid( who has been appointed trainer to Mr. Bruce .Toll. Reld knows the game from A to Z. and will have some fine horses to start with.

The Foiton trainer, A. Webster, Intends taking the jumpers Master Moutoa and Fisher across to Sydney shortly. If not taken too much care of by the handlcappers they should pay their way over there. The property acquired at Westmcrs for the new Wanganui racecourse Is a splendid one. helng close to the railway and to the main north road. The property Is only four miles frona Wanganui, and by the time it Is required—about five years—the electric cars may be running right out to Westmere. One hundred and seventy-five acres have been acquired at a cost of £175 per acre, it Is stated. Various sums have been mentioned as the price Mr. RJddlford paid for tho Manlapoto—Blemish geldlnE. Mannish, but the late owner informs me that tho correct amount was 250 guineas, with a contingency of £ino out of -The first win. Mannish ran several good racer in Taranakl during the holidays, but. he Is no champion. Trainer Lumsden. who took Husbandry to Bulls for the forthcoming meeting, has had plenty of excitement this week. On two mornings running the Husbandy gelding has cleared out from tho course, one morning leaping a high picket fence, and imost of his fast work has been done on the hard roads helween the course and the stables.

If Horl and .lolly Cove go to the post in the Maiden at Dannevlrke to-day, they will carry a lot of good money. Nobleman Is not ready yet, but It Is expected that a race or two at Dannevlrke will Improve him for his Bulls engagements. In his present condition he looks to have little chance of beating MnrUiiku and Hetaua in the sprints at Dannevlrke. Admiral Codrington. a three-year-old gelding by Gazeley—Rßnysl. can travel very fast. and with ordinary luck would have returned a winner each day at Napier. He should he worth watching at Dannevlrke, though he Is not eligible for the Maiden, having won a race at the Park.

Goldshlne and Maloha had all the bad luck possible at Napier, and the pair should have something to say In the settlement of the distance handicaps at Dannevlrke.

Otnuru Kid, who Is In winning vein lately. Is bboked to race at Dannevlrke. and on form he and Import must command support. Tigrlnia carried 7.11 when she beat all but the speedy Caricature In the Kauo Handicap at Napier, and 79 appears to be a handy weight for her In the Juvenile at Dannevlrke. Rlettse may be her toughtest opponent. The distance In the Makiriklr! Handicap should suit Retard nicely, but Willys Knight will also come In for support. Mumble will carry a penalty of lOlbs. Seratehlngs may reduce the number engaged fat-the Tmmakl Welter. All Talk is very well at present, and Ralland Is also mentioned as a possibility. The race looks open. -

Splendid accertanres are carded for the Opunake Racine Club's annual meeting, which 1b surd to draw a record attendance on Wednesday neit. Seven remain in the Cup, Including Esthonla, Perfect Day. -nd Movement, while In the St. Patrick's Jny Handicap .sine hold their groiflfds, and Slmonldes, Esthonla. Madam Blstorl. and Egraont Park are all good class sprinters The Hurdles should be one of the most interesting races of the day, having drawn fifteen horses. Of these Te Ton. Army Sp-vlee, and Applaud read ns well as any. AH the minor events with the exception of the President's Handicap have filled splendidly, and the racing throughout Should be flrst-clnss. Surprise was expressed at the absence of Punfea's name from the list of entries foT the Rnngltlkel Cup. She has been Tunning well, but always striking something just too good, of late, and the class and distance at Bulls would have been just to her liking. It Is better to win moderate stakes than to keep on knocking at the door for bigger ones!

Arrowsmith has just about got New Zenland handieappora all scared, and It will he Interesting to see how they treat him In Australia. He Is undoubtedly a great horse, but It all goes to show the futility of expecting big things of a champion devoid of classic engagements. Artilleryman's win in the St. ieger was his fourth in succession, and his record for the season reads: Eleven starts, six firsts, a dead-heat for first, one second, two thirds, and once unplaced Since the above was computed, the flying son of Comedy K'ne has won the fiovcrnor's Plate and the King's Plate at Flemlnglon. At a committee meeting of the Kirmont Racing Club on Wednesday night. Messrs N. r. Adamson. R. H. Nolan, R. Hieks, and X. W. Budge (of Stratford) were made life members of tiie club, the honor being conferred on them on account of the solcndid services they have rendered the club during many years past. Messrs. R. H Nolan and N. C Adamson are the only original members of (he club left, whilst with Messrs R. Hicks, A. W. Budge, and the late J TVavidsnp, they were the five guarantors when the present course was procured. The Epmont. Raring Club has paid the Government £4.103 in taxation over the meetine held in February.
