March 11A meeting of the Prince of Wales Reception Committee was held last night, the Mayor (Mr. J. W. McMillan) pressing. A draft which had been prepared by the Rev. C. W. Howard and Mr. T. C. Fookes was approved- In this connection it was decided .that Messrs. McLeod and Slade, of New Plymouth, should be asked to prepare the Album to contain the views, and to ask Mr. J. R. Wall, of Stratford, to supply the views. Mr. P. Thomson reported on behalf of the Children's Entertainment Committee. A summary of the report has already been published. The Military Committee reported that it was having some difficulty in getting a guard of honour. It was decided to discuss the matter more fully at the next meeting. The chairman and several of the members made an appeal to all returned soldiers to parade in mufti at the Prince's receptionMr. R. Masters, M.P., had a busy time yesterday visiting various portions oF his electorate- In the morning he went out to the Mahoe sports, after which he went on to Te Popo to the annual picnic of the Ackland School, finishing the day at the Toko Sports. At the latter two gatherings he presented the prizes. At the Oddfellows' Dance, to be held in the Public Hall, Midhirst to-night (Friday), the admission for ladies is one shilling not a basket, as advertised. ACKLAND SCHOOL PICNIC AND PRIZE DISTRIBUTION. The annual picnic and prize distribution of the Ackland School was held in the school grounds yesterday in perfeet weather. There was a good uU tendance of residents and pupils, an*) an enjoyable programme of sports and games was carried out, including med for children and adults. During tha afternoon, Mr. R. Masters, M.P., chair! man of the Taranaki Education Board* visited the sports and presented the( prizes won by the scholars. In trie| course of his remarks he expressed his' pleasure at the progress which had been made by the district, and said that it was probable that '-fore long additions would have to be made to the school.' He was sorry to learn that Mr. and Mrs. R. Savage were shortly leaving the district. They had taken an intense interest in the school ever since its inception, and woud be greatly missed. He wished them both long life and prosperity in the district to which they were going. Mr. Masters referred to the excellent attendance record, of Malcolm McKay Knox, who had not missed one day from school in the past eight years. The prize list was as follows:—Std <>, Rose Oldridge. Special attendance prizes, Malcolm Knox, May Hatice, and Mildred Oldridge. PRESENTATION TO MR F J MACKAY. Opportunity was taken at the Ackland School picnic to make a presentation to Mr. F. J. Mackay, a resident of the district for 28 years, who lias sold his farm and is 'shortly leaving the district. Mr. M. Knox,"chairman of the School Committee said that Mr. and Mrs. Mackay had taken an active part in the school affairs. Mr. Mackay had been a member of the Taranaki Education Board,. the Stratford County Council, and had been chairman of the. School Committee from its inception until last year, and on these bodies he had always been a good, worker. Mr. Bishop also referred to Mr- Mackav'= good work on the School Committee, and as the representative for the district on the County Council. Mr'. R. Masters, M.P.. paid a tribute to Air! Maekay's services on behalf of education, and his work on the County Council. He said that he had always found Mr. Mackay a strong man on public bodies, and always fair in his opinionsThe chairman then presented Mr. Mackay with ■ a case of pipes and tobacco pouch, and Mrs. Mackay with a manicure set, as a token of esteem from the residents. Mr. Mackay, in returning thanks for the presentations, expressed his sincere regret that he was leaving so many good friends beliind him. He had always tried to do his best for the district,' but he had often wished he could help them more than he had done. In conclusion he eulogised the assistance given by Mr. and Mrs. B.
