Pulley, who has been engaged for the past four years in carrying out extensive additions to 4s» Patea harbor works, has definitely decided to erect in Patea an up-to-date motor garage, estimated to cost some £BOOO. The work is to be put in hand immediately. Mr. F. D. Thomson, 8.A., chief seese-" tary to the Prime Minister, was admitted to the Companionship of St. Michael , and St. George by the New Year Honors. The decoration is one that has never previously been given to a secretary to any Minister, and it has been appreciated by his colleagues no less I than by Mr. Thomson himself. On Friday Mr. Thomson was entertained by his fellow-secretaries and congratulated on having achieved the special distinction. Another of Taranaki's fast diminishing lmn.l of pioneer settlers died at Oakura yesterday in the person of Mrs Jane Metahey, ag„d 84. The deceased ladv arrived at New Plymouth in 1841 by tho Amelia Thomson, and she has resided In the district eevr since.
