THE OTIRA TUNNEL.
DEPUTATION TO MINISTERS, *By Telegraph. —Press Association. Wellington, Saturday. Replying to the Canterbury and West Coast deputation regarding the Otira tunnel, Mr. Massey said to-day that he was as anxious as anyone to complete the tunnel, and reminded the deputation that the work hpd been continued throughout the war. Sir William iFraaer said a third shift had been at work for a month, but lie regretted that he had been unable to find men to bring the total to 200. Referring to the request that £1 a rlay be paid, he said the men on contract were earning 22s lOd. He would secure a report on the housing conditions. Mr. Massey assured the deputation, that the plant for the electrification of the tunnel would be ready before the tunnel was completed. ,
