IN THE AIR.

„ PLIGHT TO AUSTRALIA. ' Jly Telegrtph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, Sept. 11. . Australian competitors in the flight to Australia are greatly disheartened by the apathy of the Imperial air authorities in Assisting the venture. The latter decline to allo.w the competitors to flv over foreign countries. It has been ascertained that the Sopwith Company has already expended approximately £7OOO in preparations for the flight. As there are six competitors it is estimated that the initial outlay will pot be far short of £50,000, If this flight is to be undertaken this year it must begin before October 15, otherwise thp weather will preclude the attempt until next year.

If the Australians desire a competition for the prize offered it will be necessary for the Commonwealth Government to exercise its influence with the Imperial authorities in order to prevent the scheme failing through.—Aus. N. 55. Cable Assoc.

THE R3B OVER BATTLEFIELDS. Received Sept. 14, 5.5 p.m. London, Sept. 13. Owing to the probable difficulty of lading, the R33 has abandoned her visit t<J Paris and returned to England, after flvine over Holland and the Frenoh and Belgian battlefields.—Aus.-N.Z. Cablo A»«n.
