THE NAVAL RACE.
AMERICA AND BRITAIN. Received May 2, 7.40 p.m. London, May 1. Mr. . Daniels was the guest at a liincheon at which the Duke of Connaught presided. Mr. Daniels .said it would be a calamity worse than a crime if the United States and Britain entered into competition in naval matters. Tt vas not for the world's good if any nation possessed a navy capable of dominating the world. England with her great empire needed % great navy, as did America with her huge coastline. Neither country need entertain suspicions regarding the other. There must never he competition between England and America. On the contrary, he felt assured there would he a combination of navies as there had been during ths war.—Aus. N.Z. Cable Assoc.
