Mr. P. Amoore, late of Eltham, is the I new Mayor of Whakatane. Mr. J. R. Cruickshank is leaving shortly on a business trip to the Old Country. Mr. W. E. Hills, of Bird Road, Stratford has received word that his son, Sig. Stanley Hills, is returning by the Rimutaka, arriving on the 17th inst. Major Hine, M.P., Toko, is returning by the Devon, which is expected to reach Wellington about May 16. Capt. W. R. Foley, M.C., of the Stratford district, has gained his majority. He expects to return in June. In a casualty list issued yesterday Rfmn. Trevor Lloyd (Manaiaj is now reported by the Court of Inquiry to have died of wounds while a prisoner of war. Mrs. J. Gyde, Hine Street, has received word that her son, Lieut. Sydney Gyde, is arriving by the Pakeha, due at Wellington on the 27th inst. A Sydney cable states that the Stfite Governor, Sir Walter Davidspn, collapsed in the Government House grounds, and Is confined to his bed. The cause of his illness is not stated.

Mrs. J. A. Batten, Kent Road, has received advice that her son, Pvte. C. G. Julian, of the 13th Reinforcements, is due to return by the Rimutaka, due at Wellington about May 17. Mrß. A. Deane, Courtenay Street, has received advice that her son, Pvte. S. Deane, is returning by the Pakeha, due about the end of the month.

Sir James Allen stated at Wellington yesterday that the appointment of Sir Thos. Mackenzie as High Commissioner had been renewed for four months as from April. Mr Arthur Grpenslade, who has been elected unopposed as Mayor of Northcote, is still in Trentham camp. He will probably be discharged shortly. Cpl. W. Bridge, son of Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Bridge, of Manaia, who was wounded and.taken prisoner by the Germans, and released on the signing of tne armistice, returned home ,on Thursday night. Mrs. 0. Leeman has received notice that her husband, Pvte. J. H. Leeman, who was wounded at Messines in June, 1917, and was in hospital till three months ago, was- re-admitted to hospital ou March 23, owing to trouble due to the old amputation of his left leg.

Mr P. J. Watts, who, prior to leaving foi the front in 1910, was manager of the New Plymouth branch of the Standard Insurance Co., lias now returned to Zealand and has been appointed to control the Standard Co.'s Wanganui branch. He took up his duties on May i •

Browne, who for some 1 years was secondary assistant and Technical School Director in Feilding, agricultural instructor under the Wanganui Education Board in South Taranaki, and latterly under the Taranaki Education Board, has removed to Morrinsville, where he will engage in farming on his own account.

Mr. W. Slattery, while driving to Hawera with Mr. Josh McCarty on Thursday, met with an accident. A tyre of the car burnt, and the car turned a complete somersault, the occupants being thrown out. Mr. Slattery suffered rather severe injuries, and was removed to Hawera Hospital. Mr. McCarty was uninjured.—Witness.
