ELTHAM.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Eltham, May 5!. Those responsible for the holding of the Anzac Ball have every reason to feel satisfied with the patronage accorded on Wednesday evening, the Town Ball being crowded with delighted dancers, who footed it merrily to the fine, music supplied by McCartv's Orchestra. Extras were contributed by Mrs. Beasley; Misses Cooper and Marchant. and Mr. L. Foster. The committee, particularly the energetic secretary, Mr. B. L. Tayler. are to be congratulated on the successful results, and it is safe to add that any future dances controlled by the same executive will meet with a generous response from the public. The rainfall for April was decidedly small. Mr. G. D. Gow keeps records of the weather's behavior, and from him I learn that there were nine wet days, the total rainfall being 1.47 inches, and the heaviest fall on one day was .32 inches on the 3rd. By way of comparison with .April, 191S, it may be stated that rain fell on fifteen days, the total being 9 inches, the heaviest being 3.46 inches on the 9th.

In connection with. the peace celebrations, the Mangatoki and Lowgartb settlers have resolved to assist in the procession for the Monday, and have appointed Mr. W. A. Curteis as marshal. There is every indicatiou that the county displays will be a feature of the procession.

There was a short session of the S.M. Court here on Wednesday. Owing to one of our solicitors being engaged in the municipal elections, several cases were adjourned. A fine of 5s (costs 14s) was inflicted upon W. 0. Nairnby, charged with riding a bicycle on the footpath, and a further fine of 5s for riding without a light. On the charge of being idle and disorderly and having no visible means of support, a young woman named Clara A. Briggs was sentenced to one month's imprisonment.

There was a good attendance of parishioners at the annual meeting of All Saints' Church, held this week. A credit balance of £32 17s 7d yas disclosed. The election -of officers resulted: Vicar's warden, Mr. R. E. Wyett; churchwarden, Mr. A. W. Holder; vestry, Messrs K. R. Tarrant, N. E. Drayton," W. A. Curteis, A. V. Sims, F. Silver, A. Best, T. B. Crump, I. Sanderson, F. Mehrtens, and Johnson. A vote of appreciation of Mr. G. H. Buckeridge's work in connection with the church was recorded on the minutes.

As in other towns, the straying stock nuisance is very noticeable here, Cattle are to be found grazing in almost every street, and, in some instances, the stock have been able to get into private gardens, to the chagrin of owners.
