(From Our Travelling Correspondent.) Inglewood,. March 27. Constable Longbottom is proceeding, south for a few days. His successor Willi probably be a New Plymouth constable. A good deal of interest was taken in (he poll on the question of whether Inglewood ratepayers should continue the present system of rating or revert to rating on unimproved value. The voting was equal to 50 per cent, of the ratepayers, who carried the proposal for the introduction of rating on unimproved value by 205 votes to 32, with one informal vote. The remains of the late Corporal Robert Jones, of Kaimata, veie intcrcd yesterday at the Inglewood cemetery. The deceased young fellow enlisted with months in the firing line he was severely wounded at Passchendaele. For twelve months he was a patient at Walton-on- J Thames Hospital. He returned to New j Zealand some time ago, and had been I confined to his bed until his death, which I occurred last Monday. The funeral was l a large one, and fellow returned soldiers J acted as bearers. The Last Post was j sounded and the firing squad paid its last respects at the graveside. The mission conducted by the Rev. Father Whclan, assisted by the Rev. Fathers Kelly and Hartnett, at St. Joseph's is being largely attended. The mission commenced last Sunday morning, and will continue until next Sunday evening On account of clashing with the Easter demonstration at the Ngamotu Beach, New Plymouth, where the local Boy Scouts are engaged, the exhibition has been postponed for a few weeks. At a special meeting of tho Moa Road Board last Saturday a contract was let for the supply of over .'iOOO yards of boulders, and also for the supply of material for a three-span concrete bridge on the Kverett Road. Providing that weather conditions are favorable, the board hopes to complete the work this autumn. Miss K. Allen, who for tlie past four years has been on tbe stalf of the Inglewood School, was the recipient of a presentation at the school lnst'l'riday. Mr D. Evans (headmaster), on behalf of the staff and pupils, presented a brooch as a keepsake, and wished Miss Allen every success in the future. Miss Allen has been appointed to the Lincoln Road School. Messrs. Quail, of Chicago, U.S.A., director of the Commercial Casein Company, W. Harvard, of the Patea Freezing Works, aud Captain Jackson (harbormaster at Patea) were in Inglewood on Sunday last, being shown over the district by Mr, Robert Gray (Road Board engineer). The annual harvest festival of the Knox Presbyterian Church was held last Sunday, the church being decorated for the occasion. Appropriate hymns were sung. At the last court sittings Mr. Ivey Kidd, who previous to entering Trentham Camp held a land agent's license, was granted a renewal of same. Mr. Tom Arthur met with a painful accident the other day at Surrey's Mill, While working the buzzer a fly-wheel became detached and struck him on the face, inflicting a nasty wound, which necessitated medical attention and several stitches. A wedding, the contracting parties being Mr. W. R. Braccgirdle, second son of Mr. F. Braccgirdle, Kaimata, and Nellie, daughter of Mr. Geo. Carrington, of Wauganui, and erstwhile of Inglewood, was celebrated at St. Andrew's Church yesterday, Rev. £. L. Harvie officiating. Mr. N:. W. Braoegirdle acted as best man, and Mr. Carrington, brother of the bride, as groomsman. The bridesmaids were Lucy and Marjorie, sisters of the bridegroom. The bride was given away by Mr. J. Collingwood. The wedding breakfast was held at the Town Hall.
