"THE KAISER, THE BEAST OF , BERLIN." There is a great background of history to the remarkable Jewel superfeature, "The Kaiser, the Beast of Berlin," which commenced a iocal season of two nights at Everybody's lust evening. The subject is treated in a melo-dra-malic manner, but the note of sensationalism introduced is quite justified by the that it makes the picture one of absorbing interest. It thus conveys at once a strong lesson on the criminal conduct of Germany and an engrossing story. Some of the incidents shown, although historic facts, have not before been common knowledge and iron: this point of view the film is very instructive. In addition there are a number of well-known episodes woven into the story, such as the sinking of the Lusitania, the breaking of the Belgian treaty, the famous "scrap of paper," the sacking of Louvain, the interview between Gerard and the Kaiser, while some of the less known incidents are those of the captain of the guard wlio struck the Kaiser, the blacksmith of Louvain. the madness of the man who sunk the Lusitania and his midnight visit to the Imperial Palace. The seenes showing the sacking of Louvain are done with a vividne«s which bring home- to t'.e audience the true hororrs of war, and will awaken a deeper and truer sympathy for those unfortunate women and sirls who were faced with such a terrible fate a« awaited those of stricken Belgium. Such incidents as the treatment of the blacksmith'' son wove only too frequent, and the film is a terrible indictment of the monstrous cr'mts against civilisation wlifch Hermanv. at the command of "The Beast of Berlin" has perpetrated.
