A London cable announces the death of Sir Edward Montagu Nelson. Superintendent Warner, of the Christchurch City Fire Brigade, is spending a few days' holiday in New Plymouth. In the latest hospital report A. Matter (Tariki) and L. Hodges (Inglewood) aiu reported as being still seriously ill anflC J. Carmichael (Opunake) as seriously A but progressing fairly. Private J. J. Doyle, of Okaiawa, an undischarged returned soldier, who has been an inmate of the Hawera Hospital since Juno 10 last, was transferred to Christchurch yesterday, where he will'enter the orthopaedic hospital. In a recent list of New Zealand' Arm? promotions notice is given that Major M. Urquhart, M.C., is appointed Becond m command of the second battalion, .vice Major H. E. McKinnon, M.C., killed in action. After a somewhat long illness, Mrs. Marion O'Leary, of Stratford, relte.tr; of the late Mr. Cornelius O'Leary, died .on Tuesday. The deceased, who was -TO years of age, was born at Russell (Auckland), and was a proficient Maori linguist. She had resided in Stratford for about twenty years. The late Mrs. O Leary is survived by two daughter*— Mrs. Evans (Nelson) and Miss O'Leary (Stratford)-Mr. Albert O'Leary (Stmtlord) and three otepsons.—Post. Sister Dora..R.R.C, for some time assistant matron of the Christchurch Hospital, and who in the early stages of the war volunteered for service as a nurse, and served for a long time in ■kgypt and Mesopotamia, was last montt married to Major Prior, D.5.0., Assistant Director of Works at Basra, Mesopotamia.
