Thursday, Jan. 30-
Nearly all the wool from tlie wrecked Mahoe has been recovered. Auout thirty of the bales were sound, and most of the wool of the remaining fj bales lias been picked up and is being dried and rebaied at Alesars Bortliwiclj and Sons'. Arrangements are being made for refloating the vessel, which should not be a very diilicult matter if the weather continues fin«.
The Waitara band is holding a cbficert on thu beach on the 9tli February, afternoon tea being provided by the ladies. It is hoped to have a bus running between tlie town and tlie beach on that day If the band is lucky enough to get a fine day there should be a good attendance, as people will always go to the beach when they will go nowhere els«.
A public meeting is called for Friday ni;-ht to hear addresses from speakers of the Moderate League, and on Sunday, February 2nd, Mr Bayly replies to them. Wc have had prohibition lecturers hero, and shortly we shall have speakers from the Lieenso Victuallers' League. The campaign on all sides is being pressed with much vigor, and promises to be the hottest we have had yet on the liquor question. The poll being taken to-morrow on the proposal to make Waitara a Fire District is one that should commend itself to tho public, as it means a more brigade at no more cost to the Borough, while the people who are reapin? the benefit from the institution will have to pay their share of tlie cost. The inquiry into the causes which Irvl to the wreck nf the Mahoe is to be held at Waitara on February 7
