BOY SCOUT SPORTS.

SUCCESSFUL GATHERING AT INULKWOOD.

Tie splendid work performed-by'the. Boy Scouts during the, recent cpklomic and in patriotic matters has brought "the Boy Scout organisation prominently before, the public, who fully appreciate the work of the little lads in uniform. Consequently, though the weather was unfavorable, showers in the morning somewhat interfering with the attendance., there was a good crowd at the second' annual sports held at Jnglewood under the auspices of tiie Ingiewood troop of' Boy Scouts. The sports proved very successful. This was due to the splendid organisation of the atribute to the responsible officers and: to the keenness and enthusiasm with ■which the Scouts entered into the sports. The troop is fortunate in possessing a number of officers with, splendid organising ability, who know how -to interest and instruct the-boys, and it. 'is largely due to this that the movement has become so popular in Inglewood, where probably the troop is stronger than any other part of - tlie •vince. It was splendidly to see the lads "throw themselves whole-heartedly into•the sports, all of which were run from scratch and for the honor of winning as the prizes in each event were, certificates, trophies only being given for :the championship aggregates. Scouts from Hawera, New Plymouth Central, and New Plymouth (St. Mary 1 ®), tried conclusions with the IngiewoodHawera were under the charge j-of Chie? Scoutmaster Lieiift. Crutch; Central, who trekked with their cart from New Plymouth, having encamped -at Albert Road the previous night, were under the connaauid of Commissioner Major Sandford and assistant-Scout-master Scott, St. Mary's being controlled by assistant-Scoutmasters Coleman and Hopkins. Ingiewood troop won both senior and junior championships, the former after strenuous struggles between the Ingiewood champion, H. Brown, and a namesake, M. Brown, from Hawera, the finishes in every case ■being very close. Considerable interest attached to the signalling and the ambulance—in the latter the competitors had to bandage and bring in a comrade whose casualties comprised broken am, broken leg, and wounded head.

A feature of the gathering was the splendid musical programme rendered by members of the Citizens' Band under Bandmaster McLeod. Their playing was greatly appreciated, several items -being applauded, and at the termination deputy-Commissioner Humphrey thanked the band members for their attendance and assisting so much in the afternoon's success. The band were entertained to tea at the Coffee Palace and afterwards rendered, a number of selections from the band rotunda, a large crowd gathering and expressing appreciation of the music.

The ladies of the town, as usual, rendered valuable assistance by controlling the afternoon tea tables, which were charmingly laid out in the shade of the trees. The ladies had a busy time attending to the wants of those present, as did those m charge of the refreshment stall.
