LEMON SUPPLIES.
To the Editor.
Sir, —In a recent issue of tho News there is a local regarding lemons. A farmer is supposed to have said he had plenty of lemons, and if he sent them into New Plymouth he would get nothing for them, but if lie sent them to Masterton he could get twopence and threepence apiece for therm. Well, Sir, whoever the party was who told such a story, the truth is not in them. Of the few lemons I had on the trees, I sold three dozen to three different parties. Then T sent five dozen to Christchurch to sick friends, free of charge. Then two of the New Plymouth Committeemen came and got three dozen free of charge, and the balance on the trees I sent down to Marton to my own family, as one of tkem is down with influenza. So this is the full story regarding the lemons that I havo got. Where the good supply comes in I don't know. I may aav that I have expressed the desire on several occasions, if I had sufficient lemons, f would have sent a case or two in to help the sick, as my sympathy is with them, and I am always willing to give a helping hand at any time, as far as it is in my power. I mav say that I sold the lemons to the ■parties that came for them at Is 6d per dozen, also, two weeks ago I got an order from Marton to supply two cases of lemons at Is 6d per dozen, but I have never been able to supply the order, as I have no lemons. The two gentlemen who called on me were Mr. Sutton and Mr- Adlam, and they bad a free hand along with my son to pick what they could get. and they got three dozen, and they wanted to pay for them and we refused to take the money from them, as we thought it was the least that we could do to help the sick. I hope this explanation will clear this slur on the farmer.—l am, etc., FARMER.
