MEETING OP COMMITTEE*

The Monthly meeting of the Central School Committee was held on Tuesday evening, when there were present: Messrs S. G. Smith (chairman), 0. W. Browne, H. L. Northern, V. Griffiths, G. H. Dolby, T. Hard(Jraves, F. Coleman (secretary), and R. L. Mcllroy (actiiiig headmaster).

The headmaster's report stated that the roll number was 003, the average attendance for the four weeks being 555.5, or 82.0 per cent. The Vogeltown roll numbered 43, the average attendance being 41.5. Thanks was expressed for the erection by the Borough Council of notice hoards giving warning to motorists driving past the schools. White and A. George obtained D certificates, and Miss Iv. Campbell passed in all except one subject. The question of repairs to the swings was left in the hands of Messrs G- W. Browno and F. Colenian. The nuisance caused by dust from the Central School ground,; which had been referred to the Education Board by the Borough Council and passed on to the committee, was further considered. The chairman stated that lie had talked the matter over with Mr. E. A. S. Browne, Director of Agriculture, dnd it' was thought that if the ground were graded it would be possible to lay it down in grass. Messrs S. G. Smith, G. W. Browne i and T. Hardgraves were appointed to take action, and an application will be made ttf the board for a subsidy on the work. A design of a cheap and effective bubble fountain was received from the Martin-borough School Committee. The secretary reported that tlie estimated cost of such a fountain was £-2 10s. It was decided to refer the plans to the Education Board's foreman for approvalMr. V. Griffiths drew attention to the crowded condition of the temporary school at Vogeltown, where the average attendance was 41 in a room planned to hold 25. It was decided to write to the board requesting that the department be urged to proceed at once with the new oliilding, for which a grant has already been made. \
