THE RIFLE AND PIGEON SHOOTING.
To the Editor. Sir,—Mr. Hughes somewhat confuses terms in his letter appearing in yesterday's News. A rifleman is not necessarily a pigeon shot. Usually lie despises that atavistic amusement. Any man who would use a modern rifle for such a sport (?) would be quite unfit to be at large. The present-day rifle has an extreme range of about two miles, and can only ordinarily be used with safety on a proper rifle range. —I am, etc., RIFLEMAN. New Plymouth, August 2a.
