PETROLEUM.

THE BLENHEIM BORE. PROMISING INDICATIONS. There have been promising indications at the Blenheim bore at Motmoa during the past few days. Drilling has been proceeding steadily, and on Saturday night, from, a depth of 4230 feet, there was a big blow-out, the debris from the bottom of the bore being scattered over the top of the derrick. Small blpw-outs are of somewhat common occurrence at the Moturoa petroleum field, but this one is of unusual significance, for it has occurred at a depth so much greater than anything yet pierced. The bore is now in new country, and the gas which caused the blow-out is believed to come from an oil deposit below. This is regarded as the most interesting development which lias taken place at the Blenheim bore during the past two years. Dr. Bell and other oil experts have expressed tile opinion that the Blenheim bore would strike a bed of oil at 5000 feet, and it is therefore encouraging to meet promising gas indications less than eight hundred feet from this jlevcl. The company is contimiing the 'sinking of the bore, and advice lias been received that 5000 ft of sin casing will be shipped from England to-day for the use of the company, THE HADLEY GROUP. Mr. P. A. Htulley, accompanied by Mr. Grebin, the well-known Russian oil geologist and e.vpert, left for Auckland last night, en route for Home. Mr. Grebin , lias been engaged for the past five weeks inspecting the Hadley group of properties in the Taranaki oilfields, on behalf of capitalists.
