A London cable says that a Barony has been conferred on Mr. Henry Chaplin. Thirty French Parliamentarians art paying a ten days' visit to England, as guests of the British Government.—. Cable. Mr. James Davidson, who is leaving Manaia to take up farming at Toko, was on Saturday last presented by hie fellow employees of the Waimate County Council with n handsome clock. The Bishop of- Wellington (Dr, Sprott) visited Eltham on Saturday and presented the colors to the Boy Scouts. On Sunday he held a confirmation Mrvice.

Private advice has been received in Hawera of the death, at the age of 7(i years, of Mr. William MeFarland, who for many years was farming at Hawera. and lately resided at Devonport, Auckland.

The death is announced of Mrs. S. G. Larcom, of Turuturu road, Ilawera. Her property is one of the- few properties (remarks the local Star) that never changed hand*, quite an unusual thing l'n Taranaki history. A London cable gays that Mr. C. Mr. Raynor White, of St.; Johns Methodist Church. Auckland, has been appointed organist and choirm.astei' of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, Christchurch, in succession to Mr. Wilfred Coulson. Mr. White's present choir ii considered one of the best in Xc.w Zealand.

Ma jor James O'Snllivan, who has been Director of Defence Stores in Wellington, lias been appointed Inspector of Ordnance Stores throughout the Dominion. Major O'Sullivan has been in the Defence Ofllce for over thirty-sevou years. He joined the old Armed Con. stabulary, and was transferred to tile Defence Stores Department in 1883. A very old resident of Auckland, Mrs. F. L. Prime, died last week, aged 91 years. Mr. and Mrs. Prime arrived In Auckland in the ship Cresswell, commanded by Captain llaruett, on June 25, 1855, and had resided practically ever since. He and Mrs. Prime celebrated the diamond jubilee of their wedding. Mr. Prime survives his wife. He was Mayor of Auckland from December. 1874, to 1575.
