THE SLINGSBY CASE. CHILD DECLARED ILLEGITIMATE. By Cable.—Press Association—Copyright London, March 13. The Appeal Court decided that the Slingsby child was illegitimate. The judges decided that Teddy was the child of Lilian Anderson and that it was impossible to believe Mrs. Slingsby's story. Her husband as guardian ad litem was condemned to pay costs. [Mr. Slingsby is a member of an old Yorkshire family and the question at issue was whether his supposed son Teddy was said to have been born when Mrs, Slingsby was at San Francisco, but it was admitted that she put an advertisement in the paper for a child to adopt.] 'i THE FUTURE OF FIJI. 1 i Sydney, March 14. Mr. Hedston, member of the Fiji Legislative Council, has arrived. . He denied Mr. Hughes' cabled statement that a desire existed in Fiji to be merged in the Commonwealth. He added that if it was their fate tn be annexed to Australia or New Zealand he .would j rather it was the latter.
