NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB. THE ANNUAL REPORT. The annual meeting of the New Plymouth Golf Club will be held at the Town Hall next Thursday at 8 p.m. The annual report states: ''ln presenting its report for the year ending on the 31st December, 1915, your committee feels that at such a time as the present, it is unnecessary to go into lengthy details concerning the last season's play though it is desired that attention should be drawn to the matters mentioned below. Up to the present, over twenty members of th« club have been accepted for active service a nit "it wag with greatest regret and sorrow that members learnt that Messrs V. J. B. Hall, J. R. Cargo, R. H. Baily and S. J. Griffiths has made the supreme sacrifice in answer to their country's call Members who are at the front have had their membership kept alive, free of subscription during their absence, and the same consideration will doubtless be, given to dtherg about to enlist. It is intended to place on permanent record in the club house the names: of air members enlisting. The club will this year jose its popular secretary; Mr. P. Stainton, had has enlisted and expects to go into camp shortly. "Membership: Little change has taken place, in the total membership, the amount received for subscriptions beiftg £369 10s, as against £395 4s 64 for the previous year. The Links: Steady improvements . are being made to the course, and members can well congratulate themselves upon the possession of links which have earned great praise from many visitors. At present, the club is hampered for want of funds, and consequently cannot push on its bunkering as quickly as'it would like, though it confidently looks forward to the time when its links will rank equally with the best in the Deniinion. During the coming season, your committee has decided to employ an assistant for the caretaker for six months continuously during the playing season instead of for three days a. week throughout the year, as lias been the custom in the past and it is hoped that by this means more satisfaction will be given to players. A start his been made with the bunkering, and as practically all the ether heavy work lias now been done, it is hoped that this important matter will in future De able to receive much greater attention, Debentures: During the year, 25 debentures have been taken up by members and the committee is most an* iious that the remaining 44 should be disposed of as soon as possible. Sand: Excellent progress lias been made in coping with the sand nuisance, and as the result of work already done, it is hoped that same will need little attention auring the coming season. Marram and lupins planted by the caretaker are now well established, Tree. Planting: Since the last report, tree-planting has been proceeded with and among other trees planted, the pohutukawas, generously presented by Dr. Walker, are doing very well. The balance of Dr. Walker's gift will be put out during the coming year, and whilst on this subject, the committee wishes to thank both Dr. and Mrs. Walker for their very generous assistance in this and other matters.

"Easter Tournament: The committee has decided to hold its usual tournament at Easter and as all profits are to be devoted to patriotic purposes, it is hoped that as many members as possible will support it. In lieu of the ordinary prizes, the winners of the various events vrill probably be given some suitable memento in the form of a button. Prefessional: G. Lock acted as coach for the various Taranaki clubs during the past season, and as his services have given every satisfaction, it is hoped that he will be well supported during the coming year. Lease of Club's Property: Since the termination of Mr. .Toll's lease the r elub has been fortunate in securing as •tenants the new Freezing Works Co., and it is hoped tliat as this company will-be in a position to fully stock the land and keep the grass down, the work of cutting grass in the fair-ways will be much reduced and that summer golf will be obtainable at less evpense to the club than has been the case in the past. Committee: The vacancy on the committee caused by Mr. Denny-Bro\vn was filled by Mr. W. H. Wood. By the death of the late Mr. A. Standisli, for many years its president, your club has lost a member Who has rendered it many valuable services and it is n#w desired ,to place ob recerd its high appreciation of his efforts on behalf of this flub and of golf generally In conclusion, your committee desires to thank particularly the Easter Tsurnament Committee for its services which resulted in a net profit of £lB Bs. Bd, and also Dr. and Mrs. Walker, Messrs. Nicoll, E. P. Webster, W. S. G. Paton, W. C. Webster, .1. Paton, and S. ,T. Smith for donations, and in wishing members an enjoyable season, it is hoped that all will assist in securing as many new members as possible and thus assure the success of the club."
