The funeral of the late Mr. Tlios. Chamney was very largely attended on Saturday. The Rev. Ilarvie officiated at the graveside, and Messrs M. Standish, Crowe, S. Death, W. Huston, J. S. Wilson and E. I3ishell acted as bearers. The late Air. Chamney was one of the moat highly-esteemed and successful farmers in the district. With his partner, Mr. Swan, he took up land in the Tarata district between twenty and thirty years ago, and stuck gamely to it through the trying times, always lending a willing hand to assist in matters conducive to the welfare of the district. He will bo much missed by his many Tarata and Inglewood friends. The Tennis and Croquet Club has arrangements well in hand for the tournament to be held on the 23rd inst. The proceeds arc to be devoted to patriotic purposes. Messrs. W. Marshall and W. Laurence have just landed a nice line of Romney ewes from Mr. E. Short, the well-known breeder, of Feilding. They are a splendid lot, and our men are deserving of congratulation on their enterprise.
