*E KIRI. (From Our Owa Correspondent). The committee were favored with a beautiful evening for the farewell social tendered to Private Clarence Bell last Wednesday evening. The hall was packed, visitors from Opunakc to Riverlea being present. The duties of M.C. were in the capable hands of Mr. Jack Horgau, whilst Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Collins supplied the music in their usual finished style. At midnight Mr. A. W. Holder called upon Private Bell to accept a present from the people of Te Kiri, and.in a neat speech referred to the sterling qualities of "Clarry," a man whom he (Mr. Holder) had worked with for a long time, and who, immediately lie became of military age, had enlisted. (Applause). Ho then presented the guest with a set of military brushes, a combination protector, a Bible and s fountain pen. Private Bell, in thanking the To Kiri people for their kindness to him, said that lie had spent many happy times in Te Kiri, and would ever cherish a kind feeling for the many friends h c was leaving behind.
