CALL FOR MEN.
TARANAKI FIVE SHORT. TWENTY GO TO CAMP TO-DAY. Taranaki's quota to provide for the shortage of (100 infantrymen in (lie Wellington military district for the F.loventh Reinforcements has now been lived as 28, and not ?,{). as originally stated. Up lo yesterday. 2:1 men had been secured, leaving a shortage of five, who must come forward to-day to ensure Taranaki's epiota. Three men have already proceeded from Taranaki to the camp, and twenty men leave by the mail train this morning. The effort to fill the (100 shortages in the 11th Reinforcements has not met with great success so far (says yesterday's Dominion). Last week recruiting was dull everywhere, and the districts which were called on to fill the gaps did not discover many men willing to go into camp right away. Of 90 (for shortages) called in Auckland only 20 paraded, and the Wellington district sent only about 2(1 infantry into camp during the week. Infantry are still badly wanted. At the end of last week the Wellington military district was requested to find by December 23, 2li(i men more than it had already supplied. These men are to make good the Wellington quota, and help to fill South Island quotas. The 2(10, who will go to fill gaps in the Tenth, as well as in the Eleventh, have been allotted to the groups of the Wellington district according to the following table:—
