MOA ROAD BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The ordinary monthly meeting of the 'Moa Road Board was held at Ingle wood on Saturday, when there were present: 'Messrs H. Trimble (chairman), J. A. 'Brulgeman, H. Clbngli, M. Hopson, J. 'Hucker, A. E. Laurence, W. 0. Shoemark and J. Wililams. OVERSEER'S REPORT.

Mr. W. E. Davis (overseer) reported that a small bridge on the Bedford road, ■north of Lepper road south, had been replaced with pipes. Mr. Zimmc n had given free labor with horses, plough and scoop at the filling. A drain had also been deepened. The pit metal contract 'on the Egmont road had been completed 'and the road repaired. Maintenance ■work had been carried out on the Lepper 1-oad north, Dudley road west, Norfolk road east, Durham road west, York, 'Davis, Lincoln, Kupara, Kaimata, Mangaotea, Ratapiko. Motukawa, Toi Toi and Mana roads. Owing to so much wet w-eather, the holes on the Lepper road south had become so bad that the road was almost impassable, so he had had them filled in. A wooden culvert on the Everett road required replacing with pipes. A three-foot pipe culvert had been put on the Mangaone road, and the filling was nearly completed. A set of nine-inch pipes had been sent out for another culvert. The balance of the slips had also been attended to. Two sets of nine-inch culverts had been placed in the Mangaotea road, and another set was also required. During the month six 3ft, twelve 12in and ten 9in pipes had been made and 34 Sin pipes sold. As there was no metal suitable in the Xgatoro stream, he had arranged with Mr. Grylls to provide Byds. Considerable damage had been done at the Ngatoro river on the Bedford road by the removal of boulders from the proposed groyne site and from behind and in front of the old groyne. He estimated that the stream could be diverted on the Kohete road and a new bridge erected at a total cost of £77 4s Bd. The cost of the road work on the Lincoln road would be £BOO 12s ~2d. There were indications that a good metal pit could 'he obtained on Mr. Tuck's property, about 00 chains from the road. To form and metal 282 chains of the Lepper road would cost £2'4'73 7s Gd if metalled 10ft wide, and £29f1l for 12ft of metal.

The Stratford County Council notified tnat the Council was prepared to vote '£so from the Mangaotea road credit to be expended in the Moa district for the benefit of Messrs Breden and Porter, provided that the Board could wait until June for the money, and that the Council would provide another £25 in twelve months, if it would assist in getting the road metalled.

The action of the chairman in appointing Mr. Bowler engine-driver was confirmed.

The Moa Dairy Co. notified that they were unable to accede to the Board's request for a grant towards erecting protective works at the Ngatoro stream on the Bedford road.

The Valuation Department notified thai a portion of the Moa road district had been merged in the Taranaki county, and asked that the roll should be torwarded for the necessarv alterations.

The Public Works Department notified payment of £IOO, grant for work done on Egmont road; the Department also forwarding a circular relative to expenditure of grants. Nineteen settlers of the Norfolk road petitioned the Board to levy for one year a special rate of %d over the Norfolk road west special rating area. Eleven ratepayers on the Lepper road south petitioned the Board to take steps to raise a loan for the purpose of metalling the Lepper road south from the Mangaoraka river to the Junction road. The monthly statement showed receipts £327 4 3 2d (rates £-220 3s 8d) and expenditure £232 13s.

It was resolved to add 10 per cent, to all rates unpaid after February 26, 19H5.

Accounts amounting to £212 4s were passed for payment.
