More than one recently-returned visitor to the United States lias expressed the opinion that California is largely pro-German. Some details bearing out that view were given to a Post reporter recently by a gentleman who had made careful enquiries into the matter while over there on business, and who has just come back to the Dominion. A section of the press, he says, is subsidised by Germany to the extent of nearly £BOO,OOO a month, and shops fon the sale of pro-German literature and pro-German songs to be sung by school children are a prominent feature. In connection with the Panama Exposition, now being held at San Francisco, days are ;et apart for a demonstration by the various nations represented. The Germans mustered over 35,000—a number far ia excess of any of the others—and their procession extended over thre« miles of the eity streets.
