FRENCH SUCCESSES. OFFICIAL REPORT. ■ Received Oct. 98, 10.30 p.m. Paris, Oct. 38. A communique states: We exploded, south-east n of Ncuville and St. Vaast, Wines, wrecking trenches and entanglements, and occupied the craters. We repulsed counter-attacks, with heavy enemy losses, and repulsed renewed attacks eastward of Rheims, despite the enemy's extensive use of poisonoua gas.
Reserves come too late
IMPETUOSITY OF THE SCOTTISH. London, Oct. 87. ; correspondent of the Echo de Paris publishes a description of the battle of Loos, supplementing Mr Buchan's censored dispatch. He declares that advantage was not taken of the results •dueled owing to the impetuous advance of the Scottish division whieft was ordered) to take Loos and Hill 70.
It was exhausted after its great efforts, and if fresh troops had come up and a fresh attack been delivered the German front would have been pierced like a piece of cardboard. The brigade made a paih and reinforcements could have captured tte whole of the Douai plain. The day wore on and there vras so sign of the reserves, which were only reported at nightfall.

Mr Gullet, writing from British head(jnarters in Franee, contrasts the sporting spirit with which the British regarded the Germans with the concentrated J bitterness of the French in the early days of the war. The British outlook has quite changed since the Lusitania; now every man is out all the time for German blood. When moved to a new district which is calm and healthy the British make it hell by their challenging aggressiveness.
ANOTHER GERMAN ATTACK.
COMPLETELY PAILS. Per Press Association. Wellington, Oct. 28. The High Commissioner reports under date London, Oct. 27 (3.40 p.m.):— During the night a new German counter-attack at La-Courtine was stopped by the French infantry and ma-chine-gune fire, and completely failed.
