MOTUROA NEWS.
(From a Correspondent). For some years tlic urgent need of a public school lias "been, much felt at Moturoa. Within a radius of about three hundred yards there are fifty children of school age. A well.attemled meeting of householders and parents was held on iMonday night at Mr. Marr's, house, '-Mr. W. Fitzipatriek presiding. It , was decided to petition the Taranaki Education /Board and endeavor to get a, i puMio school erected on ft portion of ■what is known as the prison reserve, which is central for Moturoa and the surrounding district. 'Mr. Marr, Mr. Staite and the chairman wero appointed to draw up a petition and to get signatures from the heads of households. Strong objection was expressed by a number present to their names appearing on a petition (for a school in the direction of Omait'a, aa they 3iad not signed the petition and strongly objected to their names being on it. Acinous matters were discussed and attended to. A vote of thanks to Mr. Marr for the use of the room for the meeting, and a vote of thanks to the chairman brought a pleasant and successful meeting to a close. Direct shipping is expected soon at the port of Moturoa, land the proposed railway line from Qipunake will junction here. The ironworks, freezing works and oilworks are now in operation here. It is also probable that the meat freezing works will he erected ill the neighbor, hood. Tlie lmich-to.'be-commcnded efforts of the gentlemen on the Seaside Committee are rapidly making Moturoa a very attractive and popular seaside resort. The trams will soon he completed, and it is hot necessary to point out what an .impetus this will he in helping the prosperity of Moturoa, so that it is a certainty that in the immediate future "Moturoa- will ibe a big industrial centre with a large population.
