LAWN TENNIS.
THE PARK CLUB. The l'arlc Tennis and Croquet club opened the season yesterday undil ifoe most favorable conditions. The weather was ideal, whilst the grounds, picturesquely situated as they are in PuKekura I'a rk, never looked belt or. Their condition is a credit to the caretaker (Mr. Burnett) and t'he committee, of w J h.«li the Oion. secretary, (Mr. Trioe) -is the moving spirit, Evenything was «pic and span, whilst the courts- plaved splendidly, tlhe result of the good work done during the past, few moiu'hs. There was au attendance of albout seventy, which augers well for t'he success of "tlio club "i'hi.s season.
Tim President (Mr. W. Amlmrv) formally declared Uhc season open, 'lie referred in eulogistic tennis to the services of the caretaker and the commiiUee, to whom they Wtire indebted for the present splendid condition of tlhe courts, and thanked tilie ladiet* for providing and dis peiising sumptuous afternoon teas throughout t'he pas!! season. The prospects for t)he present season were unUHiuilly brigiit, and he had no doubt that this would prove the moist' successful season, the club had experienced. Both tilie tennis and croquet courts were fully occupied aJI the afternoon. .Afternoon tea was dispensed by t'he ladies.
