DISTRICT NEWS.

TATARAIMAKA. (Prom Our Own Correspondent). Quite a number of us arc convinced that because we all entered so heartily into the local effort to assist Bofgium's dire distress, Providcnco has sent us Buch splendid rains, thus rewarding our labors a thousandfold.

The concert held in aid of the Belgians was a most successful fixture, and certainly I think that had Bishop Averill been one of the audience he must have revoked hia hearty denunciation of holding concerts and dances for "charity's sweet sake." The large Okato contingent materially helped to make the conterfc and dance Buch a pronounced success. We hope to return the compliment on the occasion of Okato's Belgian eoncert. The following is the programme, which was gone through in a most enjoyable manner:—Overture, Mr. Bamett; Bong, Rev. C. Addenbrooke; "Our Flag," Misses C. Linn, 0. Moss and E. Stanley; recitation, Mrs. Vincent; song, Mrs. C. Honeyfield; pianoforte solo, |Mrss Smith; song, Mr. D. S. Fox; song, ■Mrs. Linn; song, Miss Kathleen Dougherty; overture, Misses C. and L. Honeyfield; song, Mr. McAUum; song, Mrs. Sumner; Bong, Miss Kathleen Dougherty; song, Miss Rosie Collins; pianoforte duet, Mr. Bamett and Master H. Honeyfield; song, Mrs. Vincent; "God Save the King." The sum netted (£ll 18s) has been handed over to the Belgian Relief Fand. Among many kindnesses received we must not omit to thank the News for their generous treatment, also Mrs. W. H. Hawkins, who kept open house for those assisting in concert preparations. Mr Bottcher kindly printed cards of admission free. Mr. ' Barnett gave his imusioal services free of charge, and this was very good, seeing he has so many night functions to attend. j

The supper, provided by the ladies of 'the district, was in their well-known best Btyle of cooking. Mr. W. Honeyfield was in the chair, and sent the "hat" on its way round by dropping into it 10s. Mr. L. Carey was M.C., and carried out his duties to everyone's satisfacf tion. That we had sufficient seating accommodation was due to tho fact of r tht Methodists very kindly letting us hate the use of their church seats. And bo our effort is over, and the largest •umber of people ever assembled in Tataraimaka went home doubly satiated, feeling that they had been "helping a lame dog over a style" and enjoying a thoroughly good concert at the game time.

RATAPIK.O (From. Our Own Correspondent.) (Ratttipiko'e second patriotic concert and dance, -which eventuated on o\i- ' tuber 2, iproved to be another great suctt«. The committee were vea-y fortunate in obtaining the best of talent;, the jperformera buiing: Misees L, lLaing, J. Auid, E. Knox, O. Foy, Keene and Curd, and Messrs Hawkins, Smith, Price, Knox, Williams, Sinclair and Matthews. The inisie was supplied by Messrs Mattihows' : oreiestra of Inglewood. Th e proeaeds of the concert and dance amounted to £l4 10b, which is £3 better than last one. Tie committee intend having another one later on, at a date to be arranged. Our teachers hare arrived back from their pliytscal culture classes at New Plymouth. The children have now to vndergo muaoolar exitrciaea every day. Me manj of Mrs J. Hair will Tfgret to iearn. that she is again an I I inmate of the Stratford Hospital. Mrs • A. Ohong, who lias been ailing for some considerable timo, is making satisfactory ,progress towards recovery. We wish loth these ladies a speedy return to I'talMi and Kti-engt>h, as botih. aro vary .popular in the district. Home separation is gaining a lot of I ground here, and our milk supply at tli.j | kiea! creamery is diminishing as a re-| I grit.
