THE BOARDERS' BEER.
By Telegraph—Press Association. . Auckland, Friday. Elizabeth Darby, proprietress of the Balmoral Private Hotel, which was recently raided by the police, appeared in the Police Court charged with selling liquor without a license. She explained that the boarders formed a syndicate for the purchase of it, and she served it out to them, paying the money received into the syndicate fund. She herself got no profit out of the sale of the liquor. The Bench said the breach of the law was not a very grievous one, and defendant was- fined £ 10 and coats
TIMARU BAND FOR 3ALLARAT.
Timaru, Last Night. Seeing that the Fire Brigades'' Demonstration will be held here next year and the probability of a clashing of dates' of the New Zealand and Ballarat contests, it has been decided not to accept the New Zealand band contest bTit try to raise £350 to £SOO to send the rimaru Band to Ballarat.
