NEW PLYMOUTH SOCIAL NEWS A Dance.—A jolly little impromptu dance was got up by a number of ladies last Easter Monday,*and was held in one of the class-rooms of the Boys' High School. Excellent music was rendered by Mrs. Wood's orchestra, andi the supper table was prettily, decorated with pink and white cosmos. Amongst those present were: Mesdames Moyea, Penn, Walker, O'Callaghan (Hawera), Bates (Wnv.sanui), P. Fitzherbert, S. Allen, G. Kebbell. Denny-Brown, and Misses Fookes, Fitzherbert (2), Matthews (2), Dempsey, D. Baily, Lewis, K. Saxton, Roy, Coutts; Bates' (Wanganui), Clarke, Cross, Ferrier, Penn and O. Mackay. Golf.—The nintli annual tournament of the' New Plymouth Golf Club was held on the Ngamotu links during the Easter season, and despite tlio showery weather there assembled a good number of the fair sex at the pavilion each day, and the prevailing eostumes were coats and skirts. Amongst those present Mesdames R. Bayley, Glasgow nui), O'Callagihau (Hawera), Penn, Roy, Rollo, Walker, Paton, Home, Grimstone, Bates (Wanganui), Bewley, Levien (Palmerston North), Oarthew, and Misses Bayley, Kingdon, Roy, Lewis, [Grant, Coutts, Stephenson, V. Kirkby, (Franks, Fitzherbert (2), Saxton and ! Bewley. The "Coronation" Ceremony.—Last Thursday Miss Bishop was crowned Queen of the Carnival in the Coronation Hall, Mr. Okey, TVf.P., performing the ceremony, and'the speeches were set in ye olde Eriglishe style, which, when rendered, were very quaint and musical to the ear, Miss Bishop's enunciation being exceptionally clear and rounded.

The Queen, who looked charming, was robed in soft white chftrmeusc, with short lace tunic, the decolletage being trimmed with, pink and blue embroideries. Her court train was of royal purple velvet, outlined with ermine. TJie maids of honor (Misses A. Hawke, Henrichs, Harrison, Bennett and V. Gilbert) were all dressed alike, in dainty frocks of white Louisine silk, with short lace tunic. The corsage was trimmed with white fur, with full court train falling from the shoulders.

| PERSONAL ITEMS. Mrs. T. G. Hirst is on a visit to Wanganui. Miss Crooke, who is at present visiting Palmerston North, returns on-'Sun-day, by motor. Dr. Wade, with his sister, Miss D. Wade, is on a visit to Queenstown and Dunedin.

Miss G. Knight, of Hawera, is on a visit to New Plymouth. Miss Titler, of Tariki, is Che guest of Miss Stephenson. The marriage of Miss Flossie Evans to Dr. J. Scott, of Oamaru, formerly of Rotorua, takis place on May 12.

Miss Mace leaves for Auckland next Tuesday, and will be the guest of Archdeacon and Mrs. Cole.

Miss J. Curtis leaves next Tuesday on a visit to Auckland.

j Tho many friends of Mr. Cyril Williams (lc.te of the local Bank of Australasia, but latterly accountant at Auckland) has, been appointed manager of the newlyi-opened branch at Tauranga. He leaves Auckland with his L wife and family at the end of the month. Miss Ruth Knott, of the Wellington Post Office staff, spent her Easter holidays in New Plymouth. Miss Standish, who is private-nursing at Hastings, is on a visit to her home in New Plymouth. Miss Ruth Baker, formerly of New Plymouth, but now of Auckland, is On «. viiit to this town.

Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Glasgow, of Wanganui, spent their Easter holidays in New Plymouth, and during their stay were tho guests of Mrs. J. Paton.

Mrs. and Misses Farley, who'have been visiting relatives in the Taranaki district, have returned to Australia. Miss Brewster has returned from her holiday trip to Wanganui. Dr. and Mrs. McNaughton Christie, who have been visiting Mrs. R. Bayley, thelatter's mother, have returned to Wellington.

Mr. Armitage, manager of the Bank of Australasia, Waiuku, Auckland, spent his Easter holidays in New Plymouth, and during his visit was the guest of Mr. and Mrs. J. Paton.

Mrs. Bennett, with her brother, Mr. Stanley Paul, who have been visiting Auckland, return to-day. Mrs. Levein, who has been the guest of Mrs. R. Bayley, has returned to Palmerston.

Mrs. W. S. Spencer has returned to Wellington after a short but pleasant trip to New Plymouth, where she was the guest of her sister, Mrs. Arthur Stapp. Miss Gladys Taylor, who has been the guest of Mrs. Arden, has returned to . Elthain.
