TASMANIAN POLITICS.
THB GOVERNOR EMBROILED. By Oable—Press Association—Copyright London, April 16. Mr. Lynch (M.P. for Clare West) asked Mr. Hareourt whether he had requested Sir W. G. Ellison-Macartney, Governor of Tasmania, to resign, and whether Sir Ellison-Macartney consulted the Secretary, for the Colonies concerning the dissolution and the attaching of conditions to the constitution of the Cabine contrary to the Tamanian Premiers' advice; also whether he will table the Tasmanian Premier's message. Mr. Harcourt requested a postponement of the question until he had received official advices. AX OFFICIAL DENIAL. Received 17. 10.10 p.m. Tlobart,'April 17. The Governor's private secretary states that there is no truth whatever in the report of the Governor's resignation. Parties in the Tasmanian House arc very equally divided, and when the Premier, Mr. Solomon, was defeated by 15 to 14, he asked for a dissolution. The Governor refused this and sent for Mr. Earle, the Leader of the Labor Party, who formed a new Cabinet. Sir Ellison-Macartney was formerly Unionist member for South Antrim, and is rather a strong Orangeman, hence the interest taken by Irish Nationalists in his proceedings. Mr. Lynch is an Australian by birth, and served on the Boer side during tihe South African war.
