10s to £0 10s, especially choice £8 12s Od and £8 15s. On Friday; 13th, at my jStratford yards, I conducted a sale on account of Mrs. H. J. Richmond and Mr. W. Say-1 well, both well-known Midhirst Jorßey breeders. There was a very representative attendance of buyers from all parts of the district, satisfactory prices being obtained for the whole catalogue. Pedigree Jersey cows made up to 59gns., pedigree heifers up to 28gns., pedigree bulls up to 27gns., grade cows up to £l2, weaners 34s to 37s 6d. At Opua road, Opunake, on Wednesday, 18th hist., for Mr. P. Walsh's clearing sale, I had a good attendance of the public. Owing to the shortness of feed in this district, competition was not so keen as at former sales, although a fair average price was maintained throughout. The herd of 33 cows and heifers averaged just over £7. Weaner heifers made £2 7s, Jersey weaner steers 14s, Jersey bull £2. On account of other vendors, dairy cows sold up to £B, cow in milk some months and empty £3 ss, line of mixed weaners (mostly heifers) £2 2s, heavy 4-year draught mare £33. On the same day, on the Palmer road, Kaponga, for Mr. S. McNeill's clearing sale, the held of 47 dairy cows, which ineluded a good number of aged cows, sold at from £8 to £l3 ss, aged or late calvers £4 5s to £6 las, making an average for the line of £8 ss. Weaner heifers realised £2 6s, hull £5, breeding sows £2 10s to £3, boar £1 12s fid, grey gelding £25, bay gelding £3O, spring cart £l6 ss, harness £4 15s, drill £26 10s, disc harrows £9, plough £6 10s,, chain barrows £3 2s 6d. At Kaponga on Thursday, 19th inst., for Mr. J. M. Steiner's sale, there was a very large attendance of the public, buyers arriving in big numbers from all parts, including a big contingent from the south. Mr. Steiner's herd of 75 cows were without dQubt a fine line, reflecting great credit on the vendor in his careful attention each year towards improving his herd and turning out the duffers. Bidding was very keen for all cows offered, the highest price obtained being £lB. A good number of fine Jerseys and Holsteins were amongst the herd, these selling at top prices. The average of £l2 4s per head for the herd of 75 cows constituted a record for this time of the year for Taranaki, and, indeed, will be a hard price to beat when feed is more plentiful. Best cows, early calvers, sold at from £l4 to £lB and from £lO 10s to £l3, late calvers £7 5s to £9 10s, pedigree Jersey bull, "Jack Johnson" 19gns, grade Jersey bull £5, mixed weaners £ 1 14s.
