Commenting on the Atlantic cable motion cabled on Wednesday, Senator Findlay, Acting Postmaster-General, said that a subsidiary conference regarding cable charges was still considered necessary by ibe Commonwealth, though Britain thought it unnecessary, because the charges bad been reduced since the sibsidiary conference had been suggested at the time of the Coronation. [The cable referred to above stater] that the Chombers of Commerce Conference at Sydney resolved that the Commonwealth Government should open negptiations with the British, Canadian, and New Zealand Governments with a view to jointly acquiring control of a cable across the Atlantic from Canada to the United Kingdom, and a reduction of the present excessive rate for commercial cables.]
