Slill'TiNG BUT LITTLE. CARGO BEING .JETTISONED. .Per Press Association. Wellington. Last Night. The Secretary of the General Post Office received the following telegram last night from the Bulk postmaster:— "Although general opinion seems to be that' the Indrabarah will ultimately be got oli'. she has not been moved much since Monday, about 50 yards perhaps along the beach, and her stern a little mure seaward. To-day the sea is quite si;w,o!h, Imt the tide was poor, and one lii;.' gave way. The beaeh to-night is st: wn with casks of tallow'* bales of wool and I lax, and bags and boxes of gum, all jettisoned."
Wanganui, Later. The main item of interest from the Indrabarah to-day is that , the stevedores had struck. A gang of twenty-three was brought from Wellington bv the Stormbird to Wanganui, thence'by rail and coach to the scene of the stranding, for the purpose of jettisoning the cargo. After two days' work, they have found the vocation not' congenial, so left the steamer to-day and went to Bulls. A big effort was to bo made this week end to -re-float the steamer, but probably the latest, developments will hinder operations. The beaeh is reported to be strewn with timber, wool and. gum. etc., jettisoned from the Indrabarah. There is much feeling among the local waterside-workers at the action of the Company in bringing men from Wellington. It is considered the Wanganui men should at least have had a share, as they were the nearest, and alwavs do the work for the Company when the Tyser steamers are in the roadstead here. POLICE TO THE RESCUE. Pahnerston North. Last Night. After news had be»n distributed" that the carcases were not to be jettisoned, there trooped into Bulls the lightermen.' The only police officer, Constable Wilson, wax away doing dutv at the Palmerston Show. Information of the outlook wns telephoned to the police, and Inspector Wieon, who was a visitor to the Pahnerston Show, arranged for the two police from Marton to motor over tO "RuNs immediately. - -, ■
