BAND SATURDAY.

TO-DAY'S CAMPAIGN. The committee of citizens set up for the purpose is earnestly endeavouring to place the finances of the Taranaki Garrison Band on a better footing, and in furtherance of their campaign citizens are asked to bear in mind. that to-day will be observed as Band Saturday. At a well-attended meeting of the committee last night, over which the Mayor (.Mr. ('!. W. Browne) presided, ami at which the Mayoress was also present, final arrangements were made for the day. Commencing not later than nine o'clock in the morning, a bevy of ladies will scour the town and suburbs with collection boxes, and it will be a hard-hearted person—man or woman—who will refuse to contribute some ( coin of the realm, however smalL The band may have .been muddlesomo in the past, but let the dead past bury its past. It is certain that under the scheme of reorganisation past lapses will not be repeated. The band must have sinews of war, and residents are therefore asked to look kindly on the public-spirited boy Scouts, who, eighteen in number, will 'make a house-to-house canvass to-day with collection boxes. Fitzroy, Moturoa, Westown, Frankley Road, Vogeltown—all places will be visited, and the recall of the boxes will not be sounded until 7.30 p.m. The band will assist in the operations during the afternoon, and will again parade the streets in the evening, discoursing a selected programme of music. Citizens, one and all, will do well to bear in mind the maxim, "Every little helps!"
